Covid-19: Nearly 400 Quarantined At School District In Fairfield County

A Fairfield County school district is dealing with a post-holidays COVID-19 outbreak that has forced hundreds to temporarily quarantine due to potential exposure to the virus.

The Norwalk School District has reported 69 new COVID-19 cases, which has impacted 21 schools, including the Jefferson School Annex, forcing a total of 362 students and staff members into quarantine.

Since the school year began, the district has reported 877 COVID-19 cases that impacted 237 schools - which can be impacted more than once - at different times, leading to more than 6,500 people being placed in quarantine.

According to the district’s “school status” page, each of the district’s buildings remains open outside of Ponus Ridge Middle School, which has limited access.

The Connecticut Department of Health has confirmed 7,907 COVID-19 cases in Norwalk since the pandemic began, with 202 confirmed or probable virus-related deaths reported. In the past two weeks, there have been 987 new cases, with an average daily rate of 79.2 per 100,000 residents per day.
